How did you get started at Dfly?
K: I learned about Dfly from a friend who casually mentioned that she thought I might like it. I’m so glad she did!
D: My wife made me go. (K: …just strongly suggested maybe, but I so did not MAKE you go)
What is/was your yoga experience before Dfly?
K: I owned a pair of yoga pants; that was pretty much the extent of it.
D: None. As a matter of fact, I hadn’t stretched since 1983.
What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
K: I love the physical challenge and the sense of community. I also like the variety of classes available; everything from Power Up (although I’ve never taken the class, it is good to know it is available) to Yin.
D: I enjoy all the benefits of each class but I think I enjoy the overall culture the most. The people combined with the environment create an inspiring place to give my body what it needs.
Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
K: I definitely have noticed changes in my sense of well-being overall; but primarily I have experienced increased energy and more focus. The upper body strengthening has helped resolve a chronic neck/shoulder issue I had struggled with for years. NO MORE PAIN!!
D: In my short time I would say my well-being benefits would be a sense calm and increased strength. I love how calm I feel after each class and the strengthening changes are definitely noticeable.
How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
K: A typical week is 2-3 classes, mostly early morning Flow classes. I’m always looking for ways to fit more classes in.
D: I shoot for 3-4 classes a week. Core Flows are probably my favorite. But each and every class is unique based on instructor and format. You walk into the same room but you never walk into the same experience.
Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
K: I have always enjoyed working out and keeping active but since recently returning to work full-time, I was struggling to find a routine that worked for me. A friend mentioned that she thought I might really like Dragonfly. At first, the thought of getting up at 4:30 for a 5:30 class seemed daunting. But now when my alarm clock goes off, I am able to jump right out of bed because I know how amazing I will feel after class. I guess I talked about it enough that my husband thought he would try. It has been so much fun sharing our Dragonfly experiences together and as a family. Our son thoroughly enjoyed Fly Kids and our daughter attended Yoga 101 with Don and regularly asks to attend.
D: I was extremely nervous my first few times attending Dfly. I felt like I was invading some sacred private female space but the staff was very friendly and inviting; it helped me settle in and feel comfortable. I’m a yogi, I never saw that coming! Kim and I have been together for about 35 years and I think this is one of the best things that we’ve done together.
