Power Up
My Teaching Style
Above all, I want people to have fun and feel safe while taking my class and exercising, in general. I love starting class by saying, “just because I am telling you what to do does not mean you have to listen to me! This is YOUR class. Feel free to spice it up or slow it down based on what YOU want and need.” I try my best to be my authentic, awkward, and silly self while teaching and love to educate on the importance of strength training and cardio while also trying to create an atmosphere where trial and error are encouraged! YOU are the expert on your body, I’m just the teacher encouraging you to squeeze your glutes a little harder :) Lastly, I am obsessed with making the PERFECT playlist for each class! At the end of the day, PowerUp is a party and I am honored to teach it.
Experience
I am extremely privileged to be able to exercise and move my body each and every day. As a childhood thyroid cancer survivor who never thought I would have a place in the “fitness world,” I have become enamored with finding ways to heal my body and mind through movement. The first time I took a yoga class and found strength training was during my freshman year of college in 2013. Over the past decade, I have had so much fun researching and experimenting with how I can challenge my body and aid with my mental health through strength training, mobility training, yoga, running, and mindfulness. I have a Master in Health Education and Behavior, am a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), and intend to continue learning about the body for the rest of my life.
Favorite Pose
I have a love/hate relationship with balancing poses! Any pose that allows me to test my balance, like Tree Pose, is such an exciting mental challenge and allows me to see the differences in strength for both sides of my body.
Favorite Quote
"To see the world, things dangerous to come to, to see behind walls, draw closer, and to find each other, and to feel. That is the purpose of life."
– The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Why I Love Dragonfly
Dragonfly is my safe place. DFly was my first hot yoga experience and I fell in love with the space, the classes, the instructors, and the warmth in Wisconsin winters! I became a Desk Worker in 2021 and have built countless lifelong friendships with instructors and yogis. Above all, I love DFly because of its commitment to being an inclusive place for every single person who comes to class.
Little Known Fact About Me
I have a mustache tattoo on my finger that I constantly forget about!
