How did you get started at Dfly?
I started attending classes at Dfly in 2020, during the pandemic. I was studying at UW and working remotely, and needed something to get out of my apartment and relieve stress. I attended sporadically, until masking ended and the heat turned up. I wasn’t quite prepared for 95 degrees, and so I took a break for a couple of years. I started up again last June and have been attending 4-5 classes per week since then.
What was your yoga/barre experience before Dfly?
My sister was practicing yoga and considering becoming a teacher while I was in college at Truman State University, and so, she influenced me to want to try yoga. The campus gym offered free yoga classes, taught by another student. She was very chill – she would plan a flow but we would complain about being stressed and then it would end up being a yin class most times!
What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I enjoy practicing the various skills that yoga requires (strength, balance, flexibility, grace, etc.) and feeling myself improve over time. I always set an intention – I really value having time and space in class to explore and practice (both mentally and physically) whatever is calling to me that day.
Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
Yes! Physically, I feel so much stronger and more assured in my movements. Emotionally, I feel more at peace and able to cope with stress. As an anxious workaholic, yoga has helped me direct some energy away from work and towards this practice for my own benefit and enjoyment.
How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I attend four or five classes per week, and each week, I try to have one high-intensity class and one yin class. I have two favorite classes that I always look forward to attending: Flow 60 with Colleen Henegan on Fridays and Yin & Meditation with Angela Bozo on Sundays. Colleen’s flows are challenging yet flexible, fast-paced, and feel amazing on my body. I love Angela’s voice during class, it is both powerful and calming. Colleen and Angela have excellent taste in music – I always enjoy their selections for class.
Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you!
Dfly is a wonderful studio! I appreciate all the effort that the teachers and staff put forth to make each class a great experience. I’m proud of all the progress I’ve made in the past year. I look forward to continuing to challenge myself and translate the skills I’m learning from yoga into other areas of my life, like practicing music and taking care of others.
