How did you get started at Dfly?
I probably took my first Dragonfly class in 2012 in Middleton. The fire classes and the yin classes appealed to me at the time, but I have tried each class offered at least once.
What is/was your yoga/barreamped experience before Dfly?
Before Dragonfly I practiced Iyenger style yoga, took some hot yoga classes, and took a semester of Kundalini style yoga classes in a supportive environment. Dragonfly, however, is home. The heat really does feel amazing, there are class choices to fit a wide range of interests, and the instructors are knowledgeable about the practice while being intuitive to class needs.
What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I enjoy the feeling of “being in the moment” the most. When I’m on my mat at Dragonfly, my mind is only focused on what my body is doing.
Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
Absolutely. This year in particular, I’ve been able to quiet my mind off the mat and cultivate a deeper understanding of myself. During daily activities actually I tune into my breath, paying attention to body sensations that indicate where I might be holding stress. I’ve also learned to accept reality as it is in the moment. That’s huge! That’s a lot of positives from yoga!
How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I try to attend class daily when my schedule allows and will take two classes back to back whenever I can (e.g., a yin following a flow). The Verona studio is within walking distance from my house which makes taking classes easier than ever! Everyone has favorite classes; mine center on fire, flow, or yin classes that include a meditation element. I especially love being in a class that’s difficult or includes challenging poses. The ability to look around and see a community of others balancing in ways that I’m still learning to do inspires me.
Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
The instructors at Dragonfly are the very best. I feel challenged and motivated in every class. Sometimes I realize that I’m smiling while focusing because it just feels that good. I can and should repeat that the instructors are the best.
Instructor Angela Bozo: “Shannon has such a noticeable commitment to her practice! Her dedication and positive outlook is always a welcome addition to any class. I have enjoyed getting her feedback and chatting about the emotional side of the yoga practice. Cheers!”
