How did you get started at Dfly?
So originally for 20+ years, I played volleyball competitively in high school, at college and then here in the Madison area weeknights and at tournaments on the weekend. Loved it more than anything. But then my wrist gave out on me, so I had to give it up. I have always been a huge athlete between VB, fastpitch softball, basketball, gymnastics and tennis for fun. So I had to figure out a new path for myself when it came to exercising because it has always been a huge part of my life. So I joined the gym across the way called F.I.T.(Functional Integrated Training) and ended up there for about 6 years. I loved it there too but all of a sudden the weightlifting was giving me a lot of pain and so I had to make a decision to give that up as well and knew I had to try something different. So Shawn, who was one of my trainers at FIT, taught Yoga here as well and so I thought I’d give it a try! NEVER in a million years did I think I’d be the type of person doing Yoga. Who knew it would be so life changing!
What was your yoga or barre experience before Dfly?
Never had done Yoga in my life except trying it at a crossover event one time at the gym and here.
What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I have never felt so good physically as I have in the past year being here. I started around February 2023. There are so many class options, which is great. It was nice to try a bunch of different ones and figure out which worked best for me physically. I love the teachers as well. Olivia, Belle, Missy and Ian. All of them are amazing. They are my main teachers. I love that you can go as many times as you’d like.
Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
Yes, my body feels so much healthier than it has in the past 5 years. I don’t have any aches or pains like I did at the gym. I feel more flexible. I feel like I want to eat better as well as being here. The stretching aspect throughout all the classes is so great. I really didn’t know what to expect when I started because I wasn’t familiar with Yoga at all.
How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I go 4x a week consistently. Monday night in Middleton with Ian, Weds night in Fitchburg with Belle, Saturday in Fitchburg with Missy and Sunday in Fitchburg with Olivia. I love the classes and teachers as well. Sincerely. They are excellent teachers and all have their own way of doing things. I literally live across the street from the new Verona location but refuse to give up these classes because they are all so spectacular! If something changes in my schedule, I have attended a few classes in Verona because it is so convenient!
Instructor Olivia Miller: “Carrie always brings such a fun and positive energy to my Sunday morning Cardio Barre classes! I have loved seeing her there consistently since I began teaching at Dragonfly. She always works hard to improve and perfect the Barre moves and does it with a smile on her face. I can’t wait to see what the rest of the new year has in store for her! Congrats Carrie!”
