How did you get started at Dfly?
I started attending classes in 2013 or 2014 and practiced on-and-off for a couple of years. I returned to Dfly as my main place for fitness & workouts a year or two ago.
What was your yoga or barre experience before Dfly?
I played both volleyball and softball in college and picked up rugby after graduation when I moved to Madison in 2006, but yoga had only occasionally made it into my routine prior to starting at Dfly.
What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
The variety of classes, locations, and instructors is one of the main things I love about Dfly. No two classes are the same! The support and encouragement for modifications during every class allows me to listen to my body without feeling shame or guilt. Hearing “this is YOUR class” never gets old.
Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
At the beginning of 2023, I set a goal of 250 active minutes each week. In the last 60 weeks, I’ve only missed that goal seven times. One of the main reasons I’ve been able to stick to this is because of Dfly. I try to attend the same classes every week and enjoy seeing familiar faces. Not only has my physical health & strength improved, but my mental well-being has benefited as well. As someone working full-time and attending school full-time, my workouts keep me focused and sane.
How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
I aim for 5 classes per week and typically attend the HIIT classes: Yoga Ups, Power Ups, or Circuit Ups. There is no way to pick a specific class as a favorite, but I really enjoy a good, sweaty Power Up. I love when weights, heavy lifting, and complex movements really get my heart pumping and make my arms and legs shake! Straight cardio is not really my jam :) If I never did another set of Mountain Climbers in my life, I’d be perfectly happy.
Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
I have always known that stretching, movement, and activity is essential to physical health. Turning 40 in 2022 really highlighted the importance of keeping my body healthy and finding ways to stay free of injury. Dfly is a welcoming environment with something to fit the needs of every person who walks through its doors. With the options Dfly has, I know I can always find a class to honor where my body is at any given time.
Instructor Jacob K.: “Kim always comes to the mat ready to push herself and embrace a challenging class! This is evident in her capabilities of endurance and strength. It is a pleasure to not only have her in class but in getting to know her as a person!”
