How did you get started at Dfly?
I needed more yoga back in my life and had known about Dragonfly for many years. When the location opened in Verona, it sealed the deal for me. I joined the same week it opened!
What was your yoga or barre experience before Dfly?
I discovered Yoga in my early 20’s and was hooked immediately. In 2005, because I wanted to become more immersed in the practice, I attended a one month, 200 hour yoga teacher training in Vancouver, BC. It was a deeply impactful experience on an emotional, spiritual and physical level that has stayed with me to this day.
What do you enjoy most from attending Dfly classes?
I love exercising in unconventional ways. Dragonfly offers me those options in an uplifting space by well-trained instructors. I have trouble motivating to do solo workouts and classes provide a structure and social environment that inspires me.
Have you experienced any changes in your total well-being since taking classes?
YES! After taking a break from structured HIIT work-outs over the summer my body started to feel stiff and achy. I began suffering from neck muscle spasms. I can feel when lack of exercise affects my sleep quality and my moods. When I joined Dragonfly in October and began attending regularly, my achy body improved almost immediately. The neck spasms are gone! My mental health is a trickier beast but it is definitely better.
How often do you attend classes? Favorite class?
My goal is to attend at least 3 times per week and more often as life permits. What I didn’t know when I joined Dragonfly is the variety of classes offered. I can get my yoga fix and the weight training my body needs at one facility. What a bonus! Each serves a different need, so my favorite is whatever I’m feeling that day.
Please feel free to share any other thoughts you have about Dfly, hot yoga, or your life as we would love to know more about you.
I moved to Madison in 2013 from Massachusetts. I learned that popular styles of yoga can vary regionally. I came from an area where Iyengar, Restorative and traditional Hatha type classes were popular. Compared to the Vinyasa/Flow that is the most popular in the Madison area, it was a big adjustment for me. When I need to dive deeper into exploring postures and challenge my mind/body, I love attending Yin and am looking forward to trying the Fascia Yoga class, as soon as I can get it into my schedule. At this point in my life I am dedicated to staying healthy and supple and am so delighted to have Dragonfly to support this journey
