Before I started at Dragonfly, I was out of town visiting a friend who had recently gotten into hot yoga. Although I was a bit skeptical, as I tend to enjoy cardio exercise, I agreed to go to one of her classes with her. I was amazed that I loved every minute of the class, and I couldn’t believe how great I felt after it was done. I knew then that I wanted to join a hot yoga studio once I got home. After debating a few months on where to go or if I should sign up, I finally decided to try out Dragonfly. Some may think I’m crazy, but the first class I signed up for was Power Up. I knew I would enjoy hot yoga, so I wanted to use the first class pass to try something different. From the moment the class started, I knew I was hooked. I signed up for the intro month that night, and I have loved every minute since. When it comes to exercise, I have always been more of a cardio junkie. Running has always been something that I have enjoyed, and in college Zumba was my cardio/exercise outlet. Because of my love for cardio, yoga was never something that I had considered trying until my friend had me go to a class with her.
The absolute best part about Dragonfly is the people. Both the instructors and the other members are all so nice and welcoming. There are always uncertainties with joining a studio or exercise program, and Dragonfly does a great job of creating a culture that eases those uncertainties. I also love the variety of classes offered, and the fact that what you do in each class changes week-to-week so there is no chance of getting bored. I have taken Power Up, Yoga Up, Flow, Slow Flow, Yin, and BarreAmped classes, and I have loved all of them.
Since joining Dragonfly, I have noticed positive changes, both physically and mentally. I wasn’t surprised to see the physical changes, such as losing weight, gaining muscle tone, and increasing my cardio fitness level. It was the mental changes, though, that did surprise me. Since joining Dragonfly, I have noticed that I am less stressed and consistently in a better mood. Joining Dragonfly is one of the best decisions I have made, and I can’t wait to continue growing stronger with my practice. My only regret is that I didn’t try it sooner.
I always attend a minimum of three classes each week, but I prefer to go more when time allows. My favorite class hands down is Power Up with the lovely Carrie Johnson. It was the first class that I took at Dragonfly, and if I could take it every day I would. Although Power Up is my favorite, I also really enjoy Slow Flow. Whenever I have a stressful week, Slow Flow is my go to. It still amazes me that every time I take that class it feels as though a weight has been lifted off of my shoulders, and I am completely relaxed.
Music has always been a big part of my life. When I’m not at work or at Dragonfly I enjoy listening to music, singing, and playing the guitar, keyboard, and alto saxophone. I also love riding my Iron 883 Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Instructor Carrie Johnson: “Since Rebecca’s first class, I’ve seen nothing but determination, strength, commitment and a positive attitude. Rebecca represents what Dragonfly stands for. She has embraced this community and inspires myself and others each time she comes to class. I am proud to know Rebecca and am excited for her recognition as Yogi of the Month! Keep being YOU, Rebecca!”
