In an answer, yes. It can. Yoga allows us to get more in tune with our bodies so that we can identify cravings for what they are and make more conscious choices with what we put in our mouths.
Will the amount of calories burned in a yoga class be enough to make that scale go down? At first, yes. But then as your body adjusts and becomes more efficient, the metabolism actually goes down. This is why it is important to take a variety of classes. And what better place to do so than Dragonfly Hot Yoga?
I’ve calculated that I can burn up to 850 calories in an average Fire class. But then why didn’t the scale budge when I did my 60 day Bikram challenge? Because i was doing the same thing every day. The body is smart. It quickly clues in to what you’re doing and makes the appropriate adjustments. When I did the 30 day challenge at Dragonfly and was able to choose from a wide variety of classes; everything from a powerful Flow class to a peaceful Yin class, I saw changes immediately. Now we have fitness classes such as Dragonfly Fit and classes where we target challenging areas such as Dragonfly Core. Mix this up with some Fire and Yin and you have a well-rounded practice.
At the Dragonfly studio we have an ongoing challenge: 30 days of continual yoga. Shake it up, move your body, learn to breathe, sweat it out. Keep your body guessing, and at the end of 30 days, I’ll bet you’ll see some changes not only in your body, but in your mind as well. Let us know when you’re ready to make the commitment to yourself and your practice and we’ll put you up on the board. Let’s do this.
